Since 1932, Lebanon has not performed an official population census. Nevertheless, an independent research and polling organization called Statistics Lebanon provides an estimate indicating that approximately 69.3% of the citizenry identifies as Muslim. This group includes about 31.2% Sunni Muslims, 32% Shia Muslims, and a combined total of 6.1% for Alawites and Ismailis.
