For some individuals, the experience of gender dysphoria can begin in early childhood. Research has indicated that participants in one study recalled their first experiences of gender dysphoria, on average, between the ages of 4 and 6. Furthermore, by the time they reached 7 years old, most participants reported having experienced feelings associated with gender dysphoria.
