Acid rain can arise from natural phenomena, such as volcanic eruptions. However, it is more frequently caused by human activities. The burning of fossil fuels, industrial processes, oil refining, electricity production, and emissions from vehicles all contribute to the release of sulfur and nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere.
