If both partners consent, there are no restrictions on how long a husband may overlook his wife's presence. However, should a husband neglect his wife for over four consecutive Hijri months without heeding her request to return, she has the right to approach the qadi. He can either order the husband to reconcile or grant her freedom from the marriage.
