Details of Marwan II's Demise
Marwan faced a critical defeat at the hands of Abu al-Abbas al-Saffah during the Battle of the Zab, which took place along the banks of the Great Zab River. This confrontation resulted in the deaths of more than 300 members of the Umayyad dynasty. Following this loss, Marwan abandoned Damascus, as well as the regions of Jordan and Palestine, and eventually made his way to Egypt.
