In 1972, it was reported that a vaccine for cavities was undergoing animal testing in England, with plans to initiate human trials shortly thereafter. Nevertheless, persistent challenges in its development, along with insufficient economic incentives, have resulted in the absence of a commercially available vaccine to date.
