Yersinia pestis, the causative agent of plague, is known to be one of the most dangerous pathogens affecting humans. As of now, there are no approved vaccines for plague available for public use. In the past, a formalin-inactivated whole cell vaccine for Y. pestis was developed and utilized by the U.S. military during the Vietnam War.
