Turkey is situated at the crossroads of Southeastern Europe and Southwestern Asia. The portion of Turkey that is considered European, often referred to as Balkan Turkey, is relatively small when compared to the much larger Asian part known as the Anatolian Plateau, which is a significant peninsula.
