Saladin was born in Tikrit, which is in what is now modern-day Iraq. His birth name was "Yusuf", while "Salah ad-Din" serves as an honorific title, translating to "Righteousness of the Faith". His lineage traces back to Kurdish roots, originating from the village of Ajdanakan located near the city of Dvin in central Armenia.
