Tlemcen's Historical Significance

Tlemcen served as the capital of the central Maghreb, a once-thriving empire that, at its peak, encompassed much of present-day Algeria (with the exception of Constantine in the east) and parts of eastern Morocco. This region became a bastion for the Zianid dynasty, a tribe from the Sahara attracted by the abundant springs and fertile lands of Tlemcen.
