What age is lonely?
Approved answer
Patterns of Loneliness Across Age
A research study examining a representative sample of more than 16,000 adults in Germany (Luhmann & Hawkley, 2016) utilized a three-item scale to assess loneliness. The findings indicated that loneliness levels generally decrease from ages 20 to 75. Interestingly, there are minor spikes in loneliness at age 30, followed by a decline until age 40. Subsequently, loneliness levels rise again until they peak at age 60, before showing another decline.
