On Fridays, Muslims observe the jumʿah, which serves as a substitute for the regular noon prayer known as ṣalāt al-ẓuhr. This special congregational prayer must be held in a prominent mosque within the community, attended by a considerable number of Muslims. Some legal scholars suggest a minimum of 40 participants for the prayer to be valid. The importance of coming together for this prayer on Friday is emphasized in the Qurʾān (62:9).
