Rose spots are a type of bacterial embolism that appear on the skin, observed in roughly one-third of typhoid fever cases. These spots are considered one of the hallmark indicators of the disease when left untreated; however, they may also manifest in other medical conditions, including shigellosis and non-typhoidal salmonellosis.
