What was Syria before Arabs?
Historical Inhabitants of Syria
Prior to the Arab Islamic Conquest in the 7th century AD, the majority of Syria's inhabitants were Arameans. Additionally, the region was under the influence of Greek and Roman ruling elites, while Assyrians resided in the northeastern areas. The coastal regions were inhabited by Phoenicians, and significant Jewish and Armenian communities thrived in the major urban centers. There were also Nabateans and other groups present.
