The Puranas and the epic texts, Mahabharata and Ramayana, affirm the divine status of Kubera, granting him the title of the "Lord of Riches." Considered the richest of all Devas, he is also recognized as a lokapala, serving as a protector of the world, and a dikapala for the North direction, although he is occasionally linked with the East as well.
