 In Greek mythology, Danaus was the son of Belus, who was the king of Egypt, and he was the twin brother of Aegyptus. After being exiled from Egypt due to conflicts with his brother, Danaus escaped with his fifty daughters, known as the Danaïds, to Argos, where he eventually ascended to the throne.
