The French physician and scientist Albert Calmette is recognized for developing the first snake antivenom. In 1890, the esteemed chemist Louis Pasteur met Calmette in Paris and was so impressed by his achievements that he invited him to oversee vaccination initiatives against rabies and smallpox at The Pasteur Institute in Saigon.
