Tamim's Background

Tamim is the second son of the former Emir, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. He was born to his second wife, Moza bint Nassir. In 2003, he became the heir apparent after his older brother, Sheikh Jassim, decided to forgo his claim to the throne. Tamim ascended to the position of emir in 2013 when his father chose to abdicate in his favor.
