Thamud (ثمود) refers to a group of people identified in the Quran who famously excavated homes from mountains in ancient Arabia. They received the message through the prophet Salih. As per Arab folklore, the remarkable stone structures found in Medain Salih are attributed to the ancient Thamud civilization.
