Sharbat Gula (Pashto: شربت ګله; born around 1972) is an Afghan woman who gained worldwide fame as the 12-year-old girl featured in the iconic photograph titled Afghan Girl. This portrait was captured in 1984 by American photojournalist Steve McCurry and later became the cover image for the June 1985 issue of National Geographic.
