Simonides of Ceos (approx. 556 BC, Iulis, Ceos [currently Kea, Greece] – approximately 468 BC, Acragas [present-day Agrigento, Sicily, Italy]) was a prominent Greek poet celebrated for his contributions to lyric poetry, elegiac verses, and epigrams. Notably, he was the uncle of the renowned Greek lyric poet Bacchylides.
