When Anubis launched an assault on Earth with his fleet, he was seemingly annihilated by the Ancient super-weapon discovered by SG-1 at the Atlantis outpost hidden beneath Antarctica's icy surface. Although he was considered dead following the incident, his disembodied essence managed to endure the destruction of his mothership.
