Why are we punished for the sins of others?

Every individual is accountable solely for their own sins. Although there are instances where innocent individuals endure consequences due to the wrongdoing of others, they themselves bear no moral guilt. Moreover, it is often the case that children may replicate the sins of their parents, and they cannot cite a poor upbringing as a valid excuse in the eyes of God.
