White scars, also known as “hypopigmented” scars, are the result of diminished melanocyte activity, which is responsible for producing skin pigment. This reduction in melanocytes can be permanent; however, treatments like fractional laser resurfacing may help stimulate the migration of some pigment cells into the lighter skin areas, improving the appearance of the scar.
