Origins of the Name Yemen

According to various sources, the name Yemen is thought to be derived from the words yamn or yumn, which translate to "felicity" or "blessed." This connection is especially relevant given that much of Yemen's terrain is fertile, standing in stark contrast to the predominantly arid landscapes of much of Arabia. The Romans referred to this region as Arabia Felix (which means "happy" or "fortunate" Arabia), in distinction to Arabia Deserta (or "deserted Arabia").
