Who is Ahmed Abu Hashima?
Ahmed Abu Hashima is an accomplished Egyptian businessman, born in 1975 in the Al-Waily neighborhood of Cairo to Egyptian parents. His father, Lieutenant General Hamdi Abu Hashima, inspired him to pursue his education in commerce, graduating in 1996. Although he initially pursued a career in football, an unfortunate injury to his cruciate ligament halted these aspirations. Widely recognized as a leader among Egyptian entrepreneurs, Abu Hashima is one of the founders of both Egyptian Cement and Egyptian Construction, as well as the founder of the Egyptian Media Group.
Ahmed Abu Hashima’s Journey and Key Ventures
Abu Hashima commenced his entrepreneurial journey by establishing the Egyptian Steel Company in Cairo in 2010, investing nearly one billion dollars. His company now accounts for approximately 20-22% of the total steel supply in Egypt.
In 2016, he launched a comprehensive media services company aimed at advancing the media sector in Egypt. Following this, in 2017, he founded the Egyptian Cement Company with an investment of about $360 million, producing nearly two million tons of cement annually. Additionally, he established Egyptian Construction in the same year, focusing on general contracting and services.
Abu Hashima’s Philanthropic Engagement
Abu Hashima actively participates in charitable endeavors across Egypt, including supporting orphans, alleviating debts for those in need, and sponsoring the national team for the deaf and mute. He harbors a clear vision for the future of talented young Egyptians, recognizing their potential contributions to societal development. Notably, he has hosted renowned football stars such as Lionel Messi, Neymar da Silva, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Moreover, he allocated advertising funds from his steel company to renovate twenty villages in Egypt, including areas in Sohag, Fayoum, and Minya.

In 2013, he was awarded the “Shield of the Republic” in recognition of his contributions to industrial development during a seminar hosted by Al-Gomhuria newspaper.
In 2014, he received the “Stevie Award” for Outstanding Chief Executive in the industrial sector at the International Business Awards.
In 2015, he was honored with the award for “Best Rising Company” in the world by the American Platts Global Metals Awards due to his achievements in the steel industry in Egypt.
He was named one of the “100 Most Influential Arabs” by Esquire magazine in 2018.
In 2019, he received the title of “Most Famous Egyptian Personality” awarded by the Saudi Embassy during the Cairo International Exhibition.
Ahmed Abu Hashima’s Personal Life
Abu Hashima has two sons from his first marriage to a former university classmate: Omar, who is in his twenties and is the elder son, and the younger son, Yusuf. After separating from his first wife, he married Lebanese artist Haifa Wehbe in 2009; however, they did not have children and divorced in 2012. Currently, Abu Hashima resides with his third wife, Egyptian actress Yasmine Sabri, after their marriage in April 2020.
