Why is hair gray?
Understanding Why Hair Turns Gray
As we grow older, the number of melanocytes in our bodies diminishes, leading to a decrease in melanin production. With fewer melanocytes present, the hair lacks pigment, resulting in a silvery-gray appearance. Interestingly, the hair itself isn't truly white; rather, it creates an optical illusion when light refracts off of it, giving it that distinctive silver-like sheen.
