The Sons of Prophet Noah (peace be upon him)
Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) had four sons: Sam, Ham, Yafith, and Canaan, also referred to as Yam in some sources. Among them, only Sam, Ham, and Yafith accepted their father’s invitation to faith and were saved during the great flood. In contrast, Canaan, or Yam, rejected his father’s message and ultimately perished in the deluge. Scholars note that all human beings today are descendants of these three sons of Noah (peace be upon him) who were spared.
Lessons from the Story of Prophet Noah (peace be upon him)
The story of Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) offers several valuable lessons and insights:
- All prophets and messengers were sent with the central message of monotheism, underscoring the universal nature of this principle.
- Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) demonstrated the utmost dedication in his mission, engaging in his calling with perseverance and variety. He preached both day and night, in secret and in public, with the hope that his efforts would yield results.
- The objections and claims posed by the disbelievers possess no validity; they stem from arrogance and a rejection of truth. One example of this dismissal is found in the statement from Allah (the Most High): “We see you only as a man like us, and we do not see that anyone has followed you except the lowliest among us, with no reason to think you are superior. We believe you are liars.”
- A notable virtue of the prophets is their complete devotion to Allah (the Most High), which is evident in their commitment to guide others towards the oneness of Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He).
Prophet Noah’s Invitation to His People
Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) called upon his people to worship Allah (the Most High) for nine hundred and fifty years. Despite his persistent efforts, they exhibited extreme stubbornness and disbelief, with only a few responding to his call. Their obstinacy continued until Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) prayed for their destruction. Allah answered his supplication by annihilating those who rejected faith, while in His mercy and grace, He saved the believers.
