The Most Beautiful Prayer on the Night of Decree

The Supplication of the Prophet during Laylat al-Qadr

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) a specific supplication for Laylat al-Qadr. When she inquired, “O Messenger of Allah, if I encounter Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say?” The Prophet replied, “Say: ‘O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me.'”

This supplication is a beautiful expression of praise for Allah’s glorious names and a recognition of the Divine’s ability to forgive. The believer acknowledges their dependence on Allah’s mercy and forgiveness, despite their efforts in performing good deeds. Though the wording of this supplication is brief, it encapsulates profound hope and the desire for Allah’s mercy.

O Allah, I have submitted to You, I have believed in You, I have relied upon You, and I turn to You in repentance. Forgive me for what I have done and what I have delayed, what I have hidden and what I have made known. You are the Exalted and the One who delays; there is no god but You.”
  • “O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the trial of Hellfire and the torment of Hell, and I seek refuge with You from the trial of the grave and its torment, and from the evil trial of wealth and the evil trial of poverty. I seek refuge with You from the evil trial of the Dajjal (Antichrist). O Allah, wash away my sins with snow and hail, and purify my heart from sins just as a white garment is cleansed of impurities. Keep my distance from my sins just as You have distanced the east from the west. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from laziness, old age, sins, and debts.”
  • “O Allah, forgive my sins and ignorance, and my excesses in my matters, and what You know better about me than I do. O Allah, forgive my seriousness and levity, and my errors and willful sins, and all of that is with me. O Allah, forgive me for what I have done and what I have delayed, what I have hidden and what I have made known. You are the Exalted and the Delayer, and You are capable of all things.”
  • “O Allah, indeed I seek refuge with You from incapacity, laziness, cowardice, stinginess, old age, and the torment of the grave. O Allah, grant my soul its piety and purify it; You are the best to purify it. You are its guardian and protector. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from knowledge that is of no benefit, from a heart that has no humility, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered.”
  • “O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and in Your forgiveness from Your punishment. I seek refuge in You; I cannot enumerate Your praises. You are as You have praised Yourself.”
  • “O Allah, forgive me all of my sins, both minor and major, past and present, open and secret.”
  • “O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, excuse me, and grant me sustenance.”
  • “O Allah, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the torment of Hellfire.”
  • “O Allah, allocate for us from Your fear that which prevents us from disobeying You, from Your obedience that brings us closer to Your Paradise, and from certitude that eases the calamities of this world.”
  • “O Allah, grant us joy in our hearing, our sight, and our strength for as long as You keep us alive. Let them be the heirs of us and let us take vengeance against those who have wronged us, and grant us victory against those who oppose us. Do not let our calamity be in our religion, do not let this world be our greatest concern, nor the limit of our knowledge, and do not place over us those who have no mercy on us.”
  • “O Allah, with Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation, grant me life as long as You know that living is better for me, and take my soul when You know that death is better for me. O Allah, I ask You for Your fear in secret and in public, I ask You for the word of sincerity in ease and hardship, I ask You for moderation in poverty and wealth.”
