Recommended Prayers for the First Ten Days of Dhu al-Hijjah

Recommended Supplications During the First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah

It is highly encouraged to offer supplications during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, particularly those that are established in the Quran and Sunnah. Below are some of these recommended supplications:

Supplications from the Holy Quran

The Quran contains several supplications that are particularly appropriate during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. These include:

  • (Our Lord, forgive me, my parents, and the believers on the Day of Reckoning).
  • (My Lord, make me steadfast in prayer, and grant that my descendants be righteous. Our Lord, accept my supplication).
  • (My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to perform righteous deeds that please You. And admit me by Your mercy among Your righteous servants).
  • (Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring the joy of our eyes and make us leaders for the righteous).
  • (Our Lord, accept this from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing; Our Lord, make us submissive to You and of our descendants a Muslim nation to You. Show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of Repentance, the Most Merciful).
  • (My Lord, I seek refuge with You from asking You that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers).
  • (My Lord, forgive me, my parents, and whoever enters my home a believer, and all the believing men and women).
  • (My Lord, grant me wisdom and unite me with the righteous. And grant me a good reputation among the later generations. And make me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight).
  • (Our Lord, forgive us our sins and our excesses in our matters. And make our feet firm and give us victory over the disbelieving people).
  • (Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers).
  • (Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire).

Supplications from the Prophetic Tradition

Numerous supplications are also recorded in the prophetic traditions. Some notable ones include:

  • The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: (The best of supplications is the supplication of the Day of Arafah, and the best thing I and the prophets before me have said is: There is no deity except Allah, alone with no partner. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He is, over all things, competent).
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: (There are no days greater in the sight of Allah, nor more beloved for Him to be worshiped in, than these ten days; thus, increase in your remembrance of Allah through glorification, declaring His greatness, and praise).
  • (O Allah, I ask You for all good, both hastened and delayed, that I know of and that which I do not know. I seek refuge in You from all evil, both hastened and delayed, that I know of and that which I do not know. O Allah, I ask You for the good that Your servant and prophet has asked of You, and I seek refuge in You from the evil from which Your servant and prophet sought refuge. I ask You to admit me to Paradise and any deed that brings me closer to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and any deed that brings me closer to it. I ask You to make every decree You decree for me a good decree).
  • (O Allah, rectify my religion, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly affairs, where I earn my living; and rectify my Hereafter, where I will return. Make this life a source of increase for me in all good, and make death a relief for me from all evil).
  • (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, from old age and the punishment of the grave. O Allah, grant my soul its piety and purify it; You are the best to purify it. You are its Guardian and Master. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not humbly submit, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered).
  • (O Allah, You are my Lord; there is no deity except You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I hold to Your covenant and promise as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favor upon me, and I confess my sins. So forgive me; indeed, none forgives sins except You).
  • (O Lord, forgive me for my mistakes and ignorance, and for my excesses in all matters. And that which You know better about me, O Allah, forgive me my mistakes, my intentional and unintentional actions, and all of that which is with me. O Allah, forgive me for what I have done in the past and what I will do in the future, what I conceal and what I openly declare. You are the Expediter and You are the Delayer, and You are over all things competent).
  • (O Allah, place light in my heart, and light on my tongue, and light in my sight, and light above me, and light below me, and light to my right, and light to my left, and light before me, and light behind me, and place light within my soul, and grant me an abundance of light).
  • (O Allah, to You I submit, and in You I believe, and upon You I rely, and to You I turn in repentance, and in You I contend, and to You I refer judgment; so forgive me for what I have done in the past and what I will do in the future, what I concealed and what I openly declared. You are my God; there is no deity besides You).
  • (O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim; indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Majestic. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed the family of Ibrahim; indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Majestic).
