Authentic Prayers for a Deceased Son

There are numerous authentic prayers from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that can be recited for the deceased. These prayers can be directed towards anyone who has passed away, regardless of their familial relationship to us. While there are no specific prayers exclusively for a son, we can mention the son’s name as we recite any of these supplications. This will ensure that the prayers reach him, God willing. Below are some of the authentic prayers reported from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that may be prayed for the deceased:

  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, excuse him and grant him safety, honor his reception, expand his entrance, wash him with water, snow, and cold, purify him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt, and replace his home with a better home, and his family with a better family, and a spouse better than his spouse. Shield him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.”
  • “O Allah, forgive our living and our deceased, our young and our old, our males and our females, those present among us and those who are absent.”
  • “Ask forgiveness for your brother.”
