Diverse Prayers

Supplication

The act of supplication is one of the noblest forms of worship through which a Muslim draws closer to Allah (SWT). It is a means of seeking refuge in Him during times of difficulty and need. Muslims have the freedom to invoke Allah with any supplications that resonate with their hearts, whether they are traditional or spontaneously articulated. Below, we present a collection of supplications that can be recited by Muslims.

Expressions of Prayer

Supplications for Parents

Muslims may pray for their parents using the following supplications:

  • O Allah, You who said, and Your word is true: “And be good to parents,” we ask for Your pleasure, followed by the pleasure of our parents. Forgive our parents, have mercy on them, and overlook their shortcomings in this world. O Allah, forgive both the living and deceased among our parents.
  • O Allah, make us the beloved ones to our parents and the closest children to them. Honor us with good conduct towards them and careful attention. Do not let us be distracted from them by wealth, spouses, or children. Grant us the ability to honor them in their lives and after their passing.
  • O Generous One, spread Your gifts upon my parents from Your vast bounty, so that they may find comfort in worship and obedience to You, and may they always remember You. Bless them with abundant health, prosperity in their lives, and enough financial means. Surround them with well-being in their hearts, spirits, minds, and bodies. Provide for them and assist them in their journeys and returns. Extend their lives with health in their faith and bodies. Let the last words they utter in this world be “There is no deity but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger.” Grant them the ranks of the martyrs and the truthful in their graves. Light their paths and protect them from the questions of the angels, affirm them at their resting place. Safeguard them from the terrors until You bring them to Paradise and cloak them with Your shield, concealing anything shameful, whether in this life or the Hereafter, and prevent others from mocking them. Maintain their intellect, faith, and belief.
  • O Allah, whatever recitation we have performed that You have sanctified, whatever prayers we have offered that You have accepted, whatever charity we have given that You have multiplied, and whatever good deeds that pleased You, we ask You to grant our parents greater shares of these rewards than we may receive. Assign them the best of portions and abundant rewards, for You have commanded us to honor them and urged us to be grateful for them. Surely, You are most deserving of our respect and the closest to us in connections.
  • O Allah, forgive my father, have mercy on him, grant him health, pardon him, honor his resting place, and broaden his entrance when he departs. Purify him from sins as a white garment is cleansed of impurities, grant him a home that is better than his, and a family that is superior to his. Allow him to enter Paradise without accountability, and protect him from the torment of the grave. Make his grave a garden from the gardens of Paradise, not a pit from the pits of Hell. Lengthen his sight in the grave, send light, joy, and peace upon his resting place, and graciously widen it in Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

Supplications for Oneself

Muslims can pray for themselves with the following supplications:

  • O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness for every sin that leads to regret, incurs remorse, restricts sustenance, or halts supplication. Open for me the doors of Your mercy and provide for me from where I least expect. Illuminate my path, forgive my sins, and grant me what is best for me and what I wish for. Purify my heart, ease my chest, and bring me happiness. Accept my prayers and all my acts of worship, answer my supplications, alleviate my distress and anxiety, forgive my sins, and improve my condition. Remove my sadness, brighten my face, and make Paradise my reward, the River Kawthar my drink, and fulfill my desires, O Allah. I am Your servant, awaiting relief that eases my heart and brings tears to my eyes; grant me glad tidings. I ask for healing, so please cure me, show me compassion, and grant me peace of mind and liberation from Hellfire.
  • My Lord, I ask You by Your glorious might at the moment my time arrives to let it be while I am prostrating before You, with my heart trembling in reverence. O Allah, purify me from all my sins and take me to You. I beseech You, by Your might and greatness, for the number of prostrations made to You in Your honored sanctuary from the day You created this world until the Day of Resurrection, to fulfill my aspirations and those of the ones I love. Do not break my spirit, complicate my needs, or exacerbate my tribulations. Protect my faith and do not let worldly worries become my greatest concern. Do not cover up any of my faults, nor expose any of my secrets. If I have transgressed against You openly, forgive me; and if I have sinned secretly, cloak me, and do not let my trials fall upon my body, my wealth, or my family. O Allah, Amen.
  • (O Allah, indeed, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, and grandson of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hands; Your judgment regarding me is being enforced. I ask You by every name that is Yours, which You have named Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught one of Your creation, or reserved in knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my vision, the cure for my sorrow, and the expeller of my anxiety).
  • O Allah, I ask You during my prayers and supplications to grant me blessings that purify my heart, relieve my distress, forgive my sins, set my affairs right, enrich my poverty, remove my adversities, alleviate my pain, fulfill my debts, lighten my sorrows, gather me together, and brighten my face, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
  • O Allah, make me among those who rely on You, among those who attain success before You, and among those who are brought close to You, by Your kindness, O ultimate aim of seekers.
  • (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity, laziness, cowardice, old age, and greed, and I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave and the trial of life and death).

Supplications for Myself and All Muslims

Muslims can pray for themselves and their fellow brothers and sisters in faith using the following supplications:

  • O Allah, unite our hearts, rectify our relationships, guide us along the pathways of peace, save us from darkness into light, ward off immorality from us, and bless us in our hearing, sight, hearts, spouses, and offspring. Accept our repentance, for You are the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
  • O Allah, You have blessed me with the best companions in this world; do not deprive me of their company in the Hereafter. Grant them happiness, relieve their burdens, fulfill their aspirations, and make Paradise their eternal home. Heal them from every ailment, O Lord, and gather me with them in the gardens of bliss.
  • O Lord of the seven heavens, the Earth, and the glorious Throne, our Lord and the Lord of all things, the One who splits the seed and the stone, the One who sent down the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an, I seek refuge in You from the evil of all that You hold by the forelock. You are the First; there is nothing before You. You are the Last; there is nothing after You. You are the Manifest; there is nothing above You. You are the Hidden; there is nothing beneath You. Clear our debts and provide for us with abundance.
  • O Allah, make this day a time for a prayer that is not rejected, open for us a gate in Paradise that is not blocked, and gather us among the ranks of our Master, Muhammad (peace be upon him). O Allah, instill in us love for Your most beloved creation, provide us drink from the pool of Your Prophet, shelter us in Your Paradise, embrace us with Your mercy, fulfill our wishes, and grant us abundance. Guide us to obedience and protect us from the Fire, safeguarding us from the evil of every envious person.
  • O Allah, I trust my heart to You; may it contain no one but You. I entrust to You the declaration of faith, “There is no deity but Allah,” so let me recite it at the time of death. I entrust You with my soul; may I take no step except in Your pleasure. I entrust You with everything You have bestowed upon me; protect it from the evil of all Your creation. Forgive me, my parents, those I love, those who dwell in my heart, and my Muslim brothers and sisters. You are the One who never loses a trust.
  • O Allah, as You aided the people of Badr and answered their calls, aid us and respond to us, O Lord of the worlds. Make my mother’s resting place in Paradise, as it is the dwelling that soothes our hearts from the heat of her absence in this world. It is the solace and comfort we bear until we reunite with her at the reservoir of the Prophet, where we shall drink the cool water of Kawthar from his blessed hands (peace be upon him).
