Remembrances After Maghrib Prayer
It is highly recommended for Muslims to engage in specific remembrances after performing the Maghrib prayer, particularly those that have been narrated by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The following are the recommended remembrances to recite after Maghrib:
- The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever recites ‘There is no deity except Allah, Alone, with no partner to Him. To Him belongs the dominion, and to Him belongs all praise. He gives life and causes death, and He has power over all things ‘ ten times after Maghrib, Allah will send him guards to protect him from the devil until the morning, and will write for him ten good deeds and erase ten major sins for him, and it will be equivalent to freeing ten believing slaves.”
- “When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) completed his Maghrib prayer, he would enter and offer two Rak’ahs and then say in his supplication: ‘O Turner of the hearts, make our hearts steadfast in Your religion.’
Remembrances After Obligatory Prayers
It is sunnah for the individual to say certain remembrances after completing their prayers, including Maghrib. These remembrances, which have been documented from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), include:
- “I seek forgiveness from Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah.”
- “O Allah, You are the source of peace, and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Possessor of Glory and Honor.”
- “There is no deity except Allah, Alone, with no partner to Him. To Him belongs the dominion, and to Him belongs all praise. He has power over all things. O Allah, there is no deterrent to what You bestow, nor any grant for what You withhold, and the wealth of the wealthy is of no benefit against You.”
The Virtue of Remembrances After Prayer
The prophetic traditions emphasize the importance of engaging in remembrance after the obligatory prayers. There are numerous hadiths from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), each highlighting specific merits associated with these practices. Below are some key aspects of this virtue:
- The promise of entering Paradise.
According to Abdullah ibn Amr, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Two qualities, or acts, that no Muslim slave safeguards except that he will enter Paradise, are easy yet few practice them: to glorify Allah ten times, to praise Him ten times, and to proclaim His greatness ten times after each prayer. This amounts to 150 on the tongue and 1,500 in the scales.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) would also say to glorify Him thirty-three times, praise Him thirty-three times, and proclaim His greatness thirty-four times upon lying down, totaling one hundred on the tongue and 1,000 in the scales. I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) counting them with his hand. They asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, how are they easy yet few practice them?’ He replied, ‘The devil comes to one of you while he is asleep, and he causes him to forget to say them, and he reminds him of personal needs during prayer before he can say them.’
- Forgiveness of sins.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever glorifies Allah thirty-three times, praises Allah thirty-three times, and declares His greatness thirty-three times after each prayer, this totals ninety-nine. To complete the hundred, one should recite: ‘There is no deity except Allah, Alone, with no partner to Him. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise. He has power over all things.’ His sins will be forgiven, even if they are as abundant as the foam on the sea.”
- Protective Remembrances.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated: “There are certain remembrances that will not lead to failure for their doers or recitors after every prescribed prayer: thirty-three glorifications, thirty-three praises, and thirty-four declarations of greatness.”
