Abdullah Al-Shatri
Sheikh Abu Bakr bin Muhammad Al-Shatri, popularly known as Abu Abdul Rahman, was born in Jeddah in 1970. He is of Yemeni nationality and is remembered for his kind demeanor and the ever-present smile on his face. A devoted father of four, Al-Shatri completed two recitations of the Holy Quran; the first in 1409 AH and the second in 1428 AH.
Al-Shatri is renowned for his distinct style characterized by humility, sincerity, and unique recitation skills. His beautiful voice captivates listeners, and he exhibits a remarkable ability to modulate his voice multiple times within a single reading. This led to his nickname, “the Humble One.” Notably emotional during prayers, he excels in the rules of Tajweed and Quranic recitation. He ranks among the most celebrated reciters within the Islamic world, actively participating in numerous Islamic conferences across various regions including Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, South Africa, the UK, the USA, Australia, Turkey, and Russia, aiming to promote the Quran and Islam. His most recent visit was to Qatar, where he led prayers at the Mohammed Bin Abdul Wahab Mosque—one of the largest mosques in Qatar—during Ramadan in 1437 AH. His touching recitation during this time drew many worshippers.
Academic Qualifications of Abu Bakr Al-Shatri
In 1416 AH, Al-Shatri received his Ijazah in the Holy Quran, specifically the Hafs narration from Asim, under the guidance of Sheikh Ayman Rushdi Suwaid. He then attained a master’s degree in accounting in 1420 AH. Al-Shatri is esteemed as one of the top ten reciters, favored by numerous followers.
Abu Bakr Al-Shatri’s Journey in Leadership
Over the years, Al-Shatri has led prayers in numerous mosques throughout Jeddah, including sites such as the Said bin Jubair Mosque, Al-Rajhi Mosque, Abdul Latif Jameel Mosque, Al-Shaibi Mosque in the Al-Salama district, and the Farooq Mosque in Dubai. Currently, he serves as the Imam of the Al-Furqan Mosque in the Al-Naseem district of Jeddah.
