Reasons for Not Waking Up for Fajr Prayer
There are several factors that can hinder an individual from waking up for the Fajr prayer. These include the following:
- The prevalence of sins and transgressions, and the negligence surrounding them. A person may be punished for their sins by being deprived of acts of worship, which is one of the most severe forms of punishment for those who commit sins, especially when they are prevented from performing the duties ordained by their Lord.
- The neglect of the tremendous merits and rewards associated with the Fajr prayer. This prayer is significant, specifically mentioned in the Holy Quran, and is attended by angels due to its importance. It has been stated that the two Sunnah units of prayer before it are better than the world and all that it contains; thus, the obligatory prayer undoubtedly holds immense rewards. Those who forget these virtues are likely to miss out on the Fajr prayer.
- The disregard for the consequences of missing the Fajr prayer. Neglecting this obligatory prayer leads to darkness in the heart, poor character, and a sense of constriction in the chest. These feelings can sometimes be felt by those who are consistent in their Fajr prayer, yet they might falter on occasion.
- The excess of indulgence in food and social gatherings. Those who overeat before sleeping often find it challenging to rise for the Fajr prayer. Additionally, prolonged socializing and conversation after dinner can consume time and diminish the enthusiasm needed to attend the Fajr prayer.
- The lack of sincerity in intending to wake up for the Fajr prayer. Those who are genuinely determined to perform the Fajr prayer tend to do so effectively, while those who are indifferent to it will find it difficult to attend.
Benevolence of Consistently Performing Fajr Prayer
Allah has ordained great rewards for the Fajr prayer, especially for those who perform it in congregation at the mosque. Here are some of the virtues reaped by those who pray Fajr punctually:
- The complete light on the Day of Judgment for those who perform the Fajr prayer in congregation, as foretold by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
- The two Sunnah rak’ahs before Fajr are better than the world and everything in it.
- Significant rewards and numerous virtues await those who leave their homes seeking prayer, sit in anticipation of the prayer in the mosque, and then complete their prayer.
- The witness of angels during the Fajr prayer, as mentioned in the Quran: (Indeed, the recitation of the Quran at dawn is ever witnessed). This implies that angels are present to witness the Fajr prayer and record the names of the worshippers, granting them great honor and joy.
- The vision of Allah in Paradise; the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) connected the sight of Allah with performing the Fajr prayer, stating: (You will see your Lord as you see this moon; you will not be wronged in seeing Him, so if you can avoid missing a prayer before dawn and a prayer before sunset, then do so).
