Supplication (Dua)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) highlighted various aspects of achieving the response to supplications. This may manifest in the form of immediate answers from Allah Almighty, the prevention of harm, or the reservation of the request for the Hereafter. Hence, supplication is an essential part of human existence, aimed at alleviating afflictions and preserving blessings. In linguistic terms, supplication signifies a call or request. In a more specific context, it refers to the act of beseeching Allah, combining hope and fear, for forgiveness of sins, removal of harm, or safeguarding against danger, all in pursuit of rewards and benefits in this life and the afterlife.
Beautiful Morning Supplications
Supplication holds a significant place in the sight of Allah, and it is essential for Muslims to persistently engage in it while observing its etiquette and prerequisites. Here are some beautiful morning supplications that can be directed towards Allah:
- O Allah, in this morning, grant us the provisions of this world that You know to be best for us. O Allah, our hearts are in Your hands; instill in them steadfastness and peace.
- My Lord, expand our chests, facilitate our matters, and untie the knot from our tongues so that they may understand our speech.
- O Allah, I entrust You with all my affairs; beautify them with goodness as You wish, and make me, O Lord, among those whom You glance at with mercy and hear their supplications and respond to them.
- O Allah, do not let my trials be in my body, my wealth, or my family, and make easy what my soul finds burdensome.
- O Allah, I place my trust in You. Assist me, guide me, and heal my broken heart in a way that You alone can.
- O Lord, I implore You by Your might and majesty, do not make my needs difficult, do not overwhelm me with challenges, do not break my back, nor expose my secrets.
- O Allah, make our supplications unanswered, grant us abundant provisions, and open for us a door to Paradise that remains unsealed.
- O Allah, You are the One who distributes provisions with Your generosity and the dawn breaks with Your command. Elevate us to the highest ranks of this world and the greatest positions in the Hereafter.
- O Allah, grant us the acceptance of supplications, the righteousness of our offspring, and the blessings of giving.
- O Allah, provide us with relief in our matters, a way out of every difficulty, and sustenance that is permissible and abundant from where we least expect it.
Morning Remembrances (Adhkar)
The morning remembrances are vital prayers that protect the believer from misfortunes throughout their day. Here are some of these important adhkar:
- The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever says in the morning: ‘There is no deity but Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs the sovereignty, and to Him is all praise. He has power over all things;’ will have the reward equivalent to freeing a slave from the descendants of Ismail. Ten good deeds will be recorded for him, ten sins will be erased, and ten ranks will be elevated for him. He will be safeguarded from the devil until the evening; and if said in the evening, he will have the same reward until the morning.”
- The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would teach his companions to say: “When one of you wakes up, let him say: ‘O Allah, by You we rise, by You we enter the evening, by You we live, by You we die, and to You is our return,’ and in the evening say: ‘O Allah, by You we enter the evening, by You we rise, by You we live, by You we die, and to You is the resurrection.'”
- There is no servant who recites every morning and evening: “In the name of Allah, whose name nothing can harm in the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing,” three times, unless he is protected from harm.
- Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: “When the Prophet (peace be upon him) would enter the evening, he would say: ‘We have entered the evening and the sovereignty belongs to Allah, and all praise belongs to Allah. There is no deity but Allah alone, without partner. He has sovereignty and praise, and He is capable of all things. O Lord, I ask You for the best of what this night has and the best of what follows it. I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what follows it. O Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the evil of old age. O Lord, I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Hellfire and punishment in the grave.’ And he would say this again in the morning.”
- It has been narrated from Abdullah ibn Khabeeb that he said: “We went out on a dark and rainy night seeking the Prophet (peace be upon him) to perform a prayer for us. We caught up with him, and he asked: ‘Have you prayed?’ I did not answer. He told me to say, but I still did not respond. Then he instructed me to say again, and I still did not respond. Finally, he said: ‘Say, ‘Say: He is Allah, One,’ and the two protectors when evening comes and when morning comes, three times, and they will suffice you against everything.'”
- Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “O Messenger of Allah, command me with words that I can recite in the morning and the evening.” He replied: “Say: O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, Lord of everything and its Sovereign, I bear witness that there is no deity but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of myself and from the evil of the devil and his partnership.” Say this when you wake up, when you enter the evening, and when you go to bed.”
- Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stated: “The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not neglect these supplications when evening came and when morning broke: ‘O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religion, my world, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, cover my flaws and secure my fears. O Allah, protect me from in front of me, from behind me, from my right side, from my left side, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your greatness from being harmed from below me.’
- “Anyone who recites in the morning and evening: ‘Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him,’ a hundred times, will have no one come on the Day of Resurrection with anything better than what he has brought, unless someone says the same or more than what he has said.”
