Prayers to Strengthen Faith
Faith is nurtured through obedience and diminished by wrongdoing. Among the noble forms of worship is supplication, especially when aimed at reinforcing, affirming, and rejuvenating faith within the heart. Prayers for Strengthening Faith from the Quran and Sunnah
Reciting the words of Allah -the Exalted- and those of His Messenger -peace be upon him- are some of the most virtuous expressions to fortify faith within the heart. Here are several prayers drawn from authentic sources in the Quran and Hadith:
- (Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Yourself; indeed, You are the Bestower).
- (O Turner of the hearts, keep my heart steadfast in Your religion).
- A supplication from Abdullah ibn Mas’ud -may Allah be pleased with him- was: (O Allah, I ask You for a faith that never falters, an unending bliss, and the companionship of Muhammad -peace be upon him- in the highest paradise of eternity).
General Prayers to Reinforce Faith
According to Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-Aas -may Allah be pleased with them- the Messenger of Allah -peace be upon him- stated: (Indeed, faith wears out in the heart of any one of you just as a garment wears out. Therefore, ask Allah -the Exalted- to renew your faith). Below are some prayers aimed at affirming and renewing faith:
- “O Allah, Turner of hearts and sights, make our hearts steadfast in Your obedience. Do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us. Protect us from temptation in our religion. Make our today better than our yesterday, our tomorrow better than our today, and let the best of our lives be the last part of it. The best of our deeds be their conclusion, and the best of our days be the day we meet You while You are pleased with us.”
- “O Allah, fill our hearts with love for You, our tongues with Your remembrance, our bodies with obedience to You, and our minds with contemplation of Your creation and understanding of Your religion.”
- “O Allah, make us those who believe in meeting You, are satisfied with Your decree, are content with Your gifts, and fear You as You deserve to be feared.”
- “O Allah, cleanse my heart from hypocrisy, my actions from showing off, my tongue from falsehood, and my eyes from treachery, for You know the treachery of the eyes and what the hearts conceal.”
- “O Allah, make faith beloved in our hearts and adorn it within us. Instill a dislike for disbelief, disobedience, and sin.”
- “O Allah, I ask You to strengthen my faith, to ease my heart, guide me, and be pleased with me and make me content, O Most Generous of the Generous.”
- “O Allah, solidify faith in my heart, make me among Your beloved servants who engage in Your worship and obedience, and protect me from the trials that are apparent and hidden.”
- “O Allah, I ask You to renew the faith in my heart, draw me closer to You whenever I stray, grant me repentance and righteous actions, make me among the people of Paradise, and protect me from Hellfire.”
