Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Karakhī, often referred to as “Al-Karajī,” presents an interesting case regarding his name’s origin. Historians suggest that if his name is indeed Al-Karakhī, he hails from the city of Al-Karakh in Baghdad. In contrast, if he is recognized as Al-Karajī, his roots trace back to the city of Karaj in Iran. Regardless of the nomenclature, he was a prominent Muslim mathematician and engineer who spent most of his life in Baghdad. Al-Karakhī made significant contributions to the works of earlier mathematicians, including Al-Khwarizmi.
