Prayers for Easing Childbirth

Supplications for Easing Childbirth

In the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), there is no specific supplication that a mother, father, or anyone else can recite to facilitate childbirth. However, invoking prayers for relief from the hardships of labor, for the child’s righteousness, and for the contentment of their families is highly encouraged. Below are some supplications that can be recited to ease childbirth:

  • O Allah, Creator of the soul from the soul, and the One who brings forth the soul from the soul, relieve me from what I am experiencing.
  • O Allah, my necessity has surrounded me, and there is none to remove it but You. So remove it, O Reliever of sorrows. There is no deity but You, You are glorified; indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers. O Allah, suffice me with what troubles me. O You who withheld the hand of Ibrahim from sacrificing his son, and exalted the status of Yusuf over his brothers and family.
  • O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, I call upon You; there is no deity but You alone, with no partner. Yours is the dominion, and to You belongs all praise, and You are capable of all things. Come forth, O newborn, by the decree of the Sovereign and the Worshipped. O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, I seek Your mercy. O Most Merciful of the merciful, may blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
  • Say: O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You grant sovereignty to whom You will and remove sovereignty from whom You will. You honor whom You will and humiliate whom You will. In Your Hand is all good, for You are over all things competent.
  • Rescue me, rescue me, O Mighty, O Praiseworthy, O Lord of the Glorious Throne. Divert from me the evil of every tyrant and obstinate oppressor. O Allah, You know that with my transgressions, injustices, and excesses, I have not made for You a son, or an equal, or a companion. If You punish, I am Your servant; and if You forgive, then You are the Almighty, the All-Wise.
  • O Allah, make my childbirth coolness and peace for me and my unborn child, as You made the fire coolness and peace for our Prophet Ibrahim.
  • O Facilitator of the difficult, O Softener of iron, bring me out from the constraints of tightness to the broadest of paths. Through You, I push away what I can bear and what I cannot bear. There is no power and no strength except by Allah, the Most High, the Great.
  • O Allah, show us Your bounty and mercy, and bring forth the newborn safely, soundly, and while being free of harm. O Allah, make him among Your righteous servants and protect him from Satan. Make him a support and a salvation and a good for Islam and the Muslims.
  • O Allah, remove from me all calamities, O Knower of all hidden matters, O Turner of all afflictions, assist me. I call upon You as one in dire need, whose strength has diminished, and whose means are few, a supplication of the drowning and the desperate. O Allah, have mercy on me, assist me, be gentle with me, and hasten Your assistance to me. My refuge is in You, O Allah. I appeal to You by Your One and Only Name, the Eternal, the Self-Sufficient. By Your mighty Name, relieve me of what I have felt night and day, so that my worries and fears do not overshadow me, and that my hopes do not center on anyone but You. Grant me refuge, grant me refuge, grant me refuge, O Allah. O Revealer of grief and sorrows, Unraveler of great calamities, O He who says “Be” when He wills a thing, my Lord, my Lord! The time of my childbirth has come, and I ask You to ease it for me, for I find mercy and care from no one but You. So extend Your support to me.
  • O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the majestic Throne, our Lord and the Lord of everything, Splitter of the seed and the date stone, and the one who revealed the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an, I seek refuge with You from the evil of everything You have taken by the forelock. You are the First; there is nothing before You, and You are the Last; there is nothing after You. You are the Manifest; there is nothing above You, and You are the Hidden; there is nothing below You. Relieve us of our debts, and enrich us from poverty. Facilitate for us all matters.
  • O Allah, I complain to You of the weakness of my strength, and the lack of my means, and my humiliation among people. O Lord of the worlds, You are the Lord of the weak, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful. O my Lord, to whom do You leave me? To a distant one who scowls at me, or to an enemy whom You have given control over my affairs? If there is no anger against me from You, I do not care; but Your mercy is wider for me. I seek refuge in the Light of Your Face which has removed the darkness, and upon which the affairs of this World and the Hereafter have been put right, from falling upon me is Your anger, or Your displeasure coming upon me. For You is the ultimate response until You are pleased; and there is no power and no strength except with You. O Allah, You know best about what has happened to me concerning my childbirth, so ease it for me and make it easy for me.
  • O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, cowardice and miserliness, the burden of debt, and being overpowered by men.
  • O Allah, show us Your bounty and mercy, and bring forth the newborn safely, soundly, without harm. O Allah, make him among Your righteous servants and protect him from Satan. Assist and preserve him for Islam and the Muslims.
  • My Lord, how can I call upon You when I am who I am? And how can I sever my hope in You when You are who You are? My Lord, if I do not ask You, then who will grant me? If I do not call upon You and You respond, then who will I call upon that will respond to me? And if I do not plead to You for mercy, then who will I plead to for mercy? O God, just as You split the sea for Moses, saving him from drowning, so bless and grant peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and save me from the distress I am in, and ease my childbirth with a swift relief filled with Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
  • O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, O Light, O Most Sacred, O Ever-Living God, O Most Merciful, forgive me for the sins that bring calamities, forgive me for the sins that lead to regret, forgive me for the sins that withhold destiny, forgive me for the sins that tarnish protection, forgive me for the sins that cut off hope, forgive me for the sins that hasten demise, forgive me for the sins that block supplications, forgive me for the sins that keep back the rain from the heavens, forgive me for the sins that darken the air, forgive me for the sins that lift the veil. O Allah, I ask You, O Remover of distress, O Unveiler of sorrow, Answerer of the desperate call, Merciful of this world and the Hereafter, I ask You to bestow upon me a mercy from You that will make me independent from the mercy of anyone else and facilitate my childbirth.
  • There is no deity but Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous. Glorified be Allah, Lord of the Majestic Throne, and all praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds.
  • O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, and grandson of Your servant. My forehead is in Your Hand, Your decree is being enacted upon me, and Your judgment regarding me is just. I ask You by every Name that is Yours, which You have invoked Yourself, or which You have taught to any of Your creation, or which You have revealed in Your Book, or which You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, to make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the removal of my sadness, and the relief of my anxiety. O Allah, ease my burdens and grant me an easy childbirth.
  • O Allah, I ask You for good character and an easy delivery; O Creator of the soul from the soul, and the One who liberates the soul from the soul, and the One who brings forth the soul from the soul, ease my delivery.

  • Say: O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You grant sovereignty to whom You will and remove sovereignty from whom You will, You honor whom You will and humiliate whom You will. In Your Hand is all good; indeed, You are over all things competent.
  • O Allah, You are the Reliever of distress, the Lifter of burdens. You are the Most Merciful, there is no deity but You. O Allah, I ask You by every Name that is Yours, which You have called Yourself, or that You have brought to the knowledge of any of Your creation, or that You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, or that You have reserved in Your Book, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer. O Allah, I ask You with Your Worth that cannot be thwarted and Your Sovereignty that cannot be violated, and with Your Light that fills all corners of Your Throne, to have mercy on my condition, relieve my anxiety, and remove my distress from me. O Allah, send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and companions.

Verses and Chapters from the Qur’an to Ease Childbirth

  • Ayat Al-Kursi: (Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Greatest.)
  • Surah An-Nas: (Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, who whispers in the breasts of mankind, of jinn and mankind.”)
  • Surah Al-Falaq: (Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, from the evil of that which He created, and from the evil of the darkening when it settles, and from the evil of the blowers in knots, and from the evil of an envious when he envies.”)
  • Surah Al-Kafirun: (Say, “O disbelievers! I do not worship what you worship, and you are not worshippers of what I worship. And I will not be a worshipper of what you worship. And you will not be worshippers of what I worship. For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.”)
  • Surah Al-Zalzalah: (When the earth shakes with its [final] earthquake, and the earth discharges its burdens, and man says, “What is [the matter] with it?” — that Day, it will report its news because your Lord has commanded it. That Day, the people will depart [separated, and] [they will be shown] their deeds.)
  • (Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days; then He established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, which is urgent, and the sun and the moon and the stars are subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds.)
  • (When the heaven is split apart and listens to its Lord, and it must, and when the earth is extended and casts out what is within it and becomes empty and listens to its Lord, and it must.)
  • (So be patient as those of determination among the messengers were patient. And do not be in haste for them. The Day they see that which they are promised, [it will be] as if they had not remained [in the world] except for an hour of a day. [Their] message is conveyed, so will [any] be destroyed except the defiantly disobedient people?)
  • Is there [anyone] who answers the supplicant when he calls upon Him and removes evil and makes you successors upon the earth? Is there any deity with Allah? Little do you remember.
  • (And Allah created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop; then He made you into pairs. And no female conceives or gives birth except with His knowledge. And no aged person has his lifespan prolonged, nor is his lifespan reduced, except that it is in a Book. Indeed, that, for Allah, is easy.)
  • (So when she delivered her, she said, “My Lord, indeed I have delivered a female.” And Allah is Knowing of what she delivered, and the male is not like the female. And I have named her Mary, and indeed I seek refuge for her in You and [I seek refuge in You] for her descendants from Satan, the expelled.)
  • (And it is He who created you from one soul. And [He created] for it a place of rest and a place of deposit. We have detailed the verses for a people who give thought.)
  • (And I said, “Seek forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever Forgiving. He will send rain from the heavens upon you in [continuing] showers and will increase you in wealth and children and grant for you gardens and grant for you rivers.”)
