Evening Supplications
Evening Remembrances
Among the most esteemed forms of worship in the sight of Allah – the Exalted – is supplication (du’a), as it draws the servant closer to Him and allows for earnest pleas in all matters. Allah – the Exalted – has commanded us to engage in supplication and remembrance, promising to respond, which ultimately benefits the servant since Allah – the Exalted – is self-sufficient and does not require anyone. Numerous evening remembrances have been established through the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) teachings. Below are some of them:
- (O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my faith, my life, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, cover my weaknesses, grant me peace of mind, and protect me from all sides: from in front, from behind, from my right, from my left, and from above. I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed from below me.)
- (O Allah, You are my Lord; there is no deity except You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I hold to Your covenant and promise as best as I can. I seek refuge with You from the evil of what I have done, and I acknowledge Your blessings upon me, and I confess my sins. Forgive me my sins, for none can forgive sins except You. Whoever recites this when evening falls and is struck by a calamity before dawn, paradise will be guaranteed for them.)
- (O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, Lord of all things and their Sovereign, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of myself, the evil of Satan, and his polytheism.)
- (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from worry and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, from the burden of debt, and the oppression of men.)
- (We have entered the evening and the kingdom belongs to Allah, and all praise is due to Allah. There is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner. Al-Hasan reported that Al-Zubaid mentioned he heard from Ibrahim regarding this: His is the kingdom, and His is the praise, and He is capable of all things. O Allah, I ask You for the best of this night, and I seek refuge with You from the evil of this night and the evil of what follows it. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from laziness and from the trials of old age. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from punishment in the Fire and punishment in the grave.)
- (In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can harm in the heavens or on the earth; He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing. Repeat this three times, and nothing will harm you.)
- (Glory be to Allah and praise Him; recite this one hundred times.)
- (I seek refuge in the complete words of Allah from the evil of His creation; they will not harm you.)
- (There is no deity but Allah alone; He has no partner. To Him belongs the kingdom, and to Him belongs praise, and He has power over all things. If recited, it is as if one has released a neck from the descendants of Ismail, ten good deeds are recorded for him, ten sins are forgiven, ten ranks are raised for him, and he is protected from Satan until the evening. If recited during the evening, it will have a similar effect until morning.)
- (I am satisfied with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad (peace be upon him) as my prophet.)
- (Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas and the two Mu’awwidhat (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) in the evening and morning three times; they will suffice you from everything.)
