Beautiful Expressions of Longing for a Loved One
- Missing someone can sometimes make the world feel empty.
- Your gift to me is my heart and soul … you dwell within my being … I have drawn my dreams and promises with you … and I long for you beyond measure.
- The mornings and evenings that don’t echo your voice can hardly be considered real mornings or evenings.
- I will continue to love you regardless of how long I must wait; if you are not my destiny, then you are my choice.
- Your image is etched between my eyelids, the light of my eyes … your eyes call out to mine … your hands embrace my own … your whispers enchant my ears.
- What madness is this that makes us awaken from a deep sleep yearning for them?
- There remains a person, despite the distance, who is loved the most and resides deeply in our hearts.
- All I desire is for you to come, and for everyone else to disappear.
- My heart feels tight … when I look around and can’t find you … I need you but cannot see you … I die a thousand times when I perceive your shadow without actually seeing you.

Poem: “My Longing for You is Like the Seasons”
This poem, “My Longing for You is Like the Seasons,” was penned by the eminent Emirati poet Fawaghi Saqr Al Qasimi. She is an author and poet from Sharjah, actively involved in women’s and children’s rights advocacy and has published several poetic dramas, including the notable “The Epic of the Eye of Certainty.”
Your essence is a homeland that resides within me,
With its contours and undulations,
Through its storms and breezes,
In its nights and its days,
I touch you through the map of my being,
Where your breaths warm me,
Your image paints me,
Shaping me,
And I search for my essence,
Only to find it within you.
In moments that reflect me,
When a part of you is wholly mine,
And everything about you is part of me.
The longing remains ignited within my being,
This is still while you are part of me,
So how shall it be,
When you are far away from me?!!
And in memory’s moments,
Dreams and pains drift by,
Like bolts of lightning that tear the stillness,
Igniting the fervor and anguish,
Traversing spaces of sorrow,
And filling the void with longing and nostalgia,
With my departure traversing endlessly!
And when the echo returns,
My heart trembles,
Amidst the pillars of my standing,
As evenings of expression roam,
To the chants of melody,
Restoring what was lost,
And reclaiming what slipped away,
I searched for myself within you,
Wondering if I found me!
But I received no answer ..
For I have vanished .. and not reached!
And I remain a victim of sorrow,
Stealing spaces
From the caravan of celestial grass,
Hidden within eyes,
Burdened by the heaviness of time,
That infiltrates in the stealth of waiting,
On the sidewalks of fleeing winds,
Amidst the stuttering visions and the bleakness of days.
As the hail from the streets falls,
Upon the balcony of wakefulness,
And longing ignites me,
Like the longing of seasons,
For the comfort of weary memories,
On the arms of time,
And the seclusion of the sea with its captain’s shells,
When the ships await to capture it,
To fall into the embrace of joy that never completes,
Except with you ..
Thoughts on Longing for a Loved One
Thought One:
My rose … if only you knew how much I’ve suffered since your departure … how I have endured the pangs of longing for your whispers… how I have embraced yearning in your absence … and planted hope for your return after you left … I no longer feel what surrounds me … you have made silence my raft … memories of the past press down upon me, making me stumble in my paths … my joy sprawls sorrowfully in the arms of yearning … the lights of my hopes fade in the darkness of despair … and my tears drown in the waters of sighs … causing the roots of pain to grow and sprout along my pathways … my rose, in whose embrace I entrusted my heart … let me etch your name into my veins, making you a part of my breath, and drawing your love upon my tears.
Thought Two:
I lived the fantasy in the oceans of love … I sailed in my world without reasons … my oars of affection were lost … sadness consumed me as your essence approached from afar … it carries me to the world of love, watering the flowers of longing within me, and sowing the blossoms of infatuation in my life.
Thought Three:
When we long for someone … we wish that the faces of everyone around us would transform into one face … a face that only you recognize … a feeling only your heart can comprehend … it is the face of that person who has imprinted this unfamiliar emotion within your soul … and no one else.
Thought Four:
I asked her … how much do you long for me? She replied: Like the clouds long for their rain … like a dove longs for its nest … like a mother longs for her child … like night longs for its day … like a flower longs for its nectar … like an eye longs for its kohl … like a love poem longs for its beloved.
