Remembrances for Friday
It is highly recommended to engage in remembrance on this sacred day. The renowned scholar, Al-Nawawi, may Allah have mercy on him, stated: “Understand that everything that is said on days other than Friday is also applicable on this day, with an increased recommendation for the remembrance herein.” The supplications that are recited on any other day are equally encouraged on Friday, and their merit is even greater. This includes morning and evening remembrances, seeking forgiveness, praises, and other forms of dhikr. Notably, the following acts of worship have been affirmed as virtuous on this day:
- Sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
It is recommended to abundantly send blessings upon the Prophet on Fridays in any form. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The best of your days is Friday, so send blessings upon me frequently on that day, for your blessings are presented to me.” The companions asked, “O Messenger of Allah, how will our blessings be presented to you when you have passed away?” He replied: “Indeed, Allah has prohibited the earth from consuming the bodies of the prophets.” (Reported in Ahmad)
- Reciting Surah Al-Kahf
According to the Prophet (peace be upon him), “Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday will be illuminated with light from one Friday to the next.”
- Engaging in supplication
A Muslim should ask Allah for whatever they need or utilize the supplications reported from the Prophet. He emphasized: “On Fridays, there exists a moment when a Muslim servant, while standing in prayer, asks Allah for something, and He grants it to them.”
Brief Supplications for Friday
It is important to note that there are no fixed supplications for Friday. The door to supplication is wide open. Here are some general supplications and remembrances that Muslims can recite on Friday:
- O Allah, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, O Lord of Glory and Honor, I ask You by Your sacred, blessed, and beloved name, which when invoked, You answer, when mercy is requested, You show mercy, and when relief is sought, You grant relief. Make us among the accepted in this world and lead us to Your highest ranks.
- O Allah, forgive my sins and transgressions, and the sins of all Muslims.
- O Allah, forgive me, grant me health, erase my sins, and guide me to Your straight path.
- O Allah, bestow Your mercy upon me, for You are the Most Merciful of the merciful. In Your mercy, I seek assistance.
- Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah; there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest; to Allah belongs all praise.
- I seek forgiveness from Allah as many as Your creation, in favor with You, equal to the weight of Your Throne, and as vast as Your words.
- O Allah, forgive all Muslims, living and deceased, and grant them entry into Your Gardens of Delight.
- There is no god but Allah, the True Sovereign; there is no god but Allah, the Just Certainty; there is no god but Allah, our Lord and the Lord of our forefathers.
- O Allah, I ask You, for You alone deserve all praise; there is no god but You, the Most Kind, the Most Generous, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of Glory and Honor; have mercy on us with Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
- All praise is due to Allah, from whom only His grace is hoped and no sustenance is found other than Him.
- O Allah, I ask You in my prayers and supplications for a blessing that purifies my heart and eases my burdens.
- O Allah, I extend my hands towards You; my aspirations rest with You, so accept my repentance and have mercy on my weakness.
- O Allah, forgive my sins and accept my excuses. Grant me a share of all that is good and guide me towards every good through Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
Short Remembrances and Their Virtues
On Friday, as well as on other days, one can remember Allah (the Exalted) through the following remembrances:
- (O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and upon his family.)
- (The best remembrance is “There is no god but Allah.”)
- (Two phrases that are light on the tongue, heavy on the scales, and beloved to the Most Merciful: “SubhanAllahi al-Azim” (Glory be to Allah the Most Great) and “SubhanAllahi wa bihamdi” (Glory be to Allah and praise Him).
- (There is no one on Earth who says, “There is no god but Allah,” Allah is the Greatest, and “There is no power nor might except with Allah,” without having his sins forgiven, even if they were like the foam of the sea.)
