The Children of Our Lord Abraham (Peace be upon Him)

Sons of the Prophet Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him)

The Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) married four wives and had a total of thirteen sons. Below is an overview of his children:

  • Ismail (Ishmael) – his mother was Hagar.
  • Isaac – his mother was Sarah.
  • Qaysan, Suraj, Umaym, Lutan, Nafas – their mother was Hajun bint Amin.
  • Madyan, Zumran, Sarij, Yaqshan, Nashaq, and a sixth son whose name is not recorded – their mother was Qintura bint Yaqtan from the Canaanites.

Ismail (Ishmael)

Ismail (peace be upon him) is one of the sons of the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), chosen by Allah for prophethood. His mother, Hagar, was an Egyptian woman he married due to delays in having children with his first wife, Sarah. Allah blessed him with Ismail (peace be upon him). According to divine wisdom, Allah commanded Prophet Ibrahim to take Hagar and their son and relocate them to the sacred city of Mecca. In obedience to Allah’s command, Ibrahim settled them in Mecca, a barren land at that time. Allah, however, blessed them with the miraculous spring of Zamzam, providing them sustenance and attracting nearby Arab tribes to settle around them. This location became the birthplace of Prophet Ismail (peace be upon him), who grew up there. Subsequently, significant events unfolded, including the construction of the Kaaba alongside his father, Ibrahim (peace be upon him), followed by the divine command for Ibrahim to sacrifice Ismail, which was substituted with a great sacrifice.

Isaac (Ishaq)

Isaac (peace be upon him) is the second son of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), also blessed by Allah with prophethood. His mother, Sarah, gave birth to him at the age of ninety, while Ibrahim was around one hundred twenty years old. Isaac’s lineage includes three consecutive prophets: Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph (peace be upon them). Allah mentions his prophet Isaac multiple times in the Holy Quran, stating: “And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous.” (Al-Saffat: 112).
