Prayers Before Childbirth
There are several supplications found in the Holy Quran, the Sunnah, and general prayers that pregnant women can recite during their pregnancy and prior to childbirth to alleviate the hardships associated with labor. It is important to note that there are no specific prayers documented for the purpose of easing labor and protecting the fetus. Below are some of these supplications:
- (Hasbiya Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa, ‘alayhi tawakkaltu wa Huwa Rabb al-‘Arsh al-‘Azim).
- (La ilaha illa Anta, Subhanaka inni kuntu min al-zalimin).
- (Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja’al’tahu sahlan, wa Anta taj’al al-huzna idha shi’ta sahlan).
- (Allahumma inni as’aluka bi-annaka Anta Allah, la ilaha illa Anta, al-Ahad, al-Samad, al-ladhi lam yalid wa lam yulad wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad. Qala fa qal al-ladhi nafsi biyadihi laqad sa’al Allahu bi-ismihi al-A’zam alladhi idha du’iya bihi ajaba wa idha su’ila bihi a’ta).
- O Allah, O Facilitator of the Difficult, O Softener of Iron, O Keeper of Promises, O One who is always in a New Matter, make my experience of pregnancy easier.
- There is no god but Allah, the Almighty and the Forbearing. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens and the earth, and the Lord of the Mighty Throne, who is capable of making every difficult matter easy.
- O Allah, assist me during this pregnancy, and grant me goodness, blessings, and health.
Prayers to Ease Labor
Here are some supplications that every woman can recite during labor to help facilitate the process:
- (Idha al-samā’u inshaqqati wa ādhinat li Rabbihā wa huqqati wa idha al-arḍu muddati wa alqat mā fīhā wa takhallat).
- (La ilaha illa Allah al-‘Azim al-Halim, la ilaha illa Allah Rabb al-‘Arsh al-‘Azim, la ilaha illa Allah Rabb al-samawāt wa Rabb al-arḍ wa Rabb al-‘Arsh al-Karīm).
- O Allah, I ask You for good character and an easy delivery.
- Say: O Allah, Master of the Kingdom, You give sovereignty to whom You will and take away sovereignty from whom You will. You honor whom You will and humiliate whom You will. In Your hand is all good, and You are over all things competent.
- O Allah, I ask You by every name that is Yours, which You named Yourself, taught to one of Your creations, or preserved in Your knowledge, that You make my delivery easy and bless me with the sight of my newborn in good health.
- O Allah, I ask You by Your might that cannot be challenged, Your sovereignty that cannot be denied, and Your light that has filled the corners of Your Throne, to have mercy on my condition, relieve my anxiety, and remove my distress. May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our Master Muhammad and his family and companions.
Prayers for Fetal Protection
The following are some supplications that a woman can recite for the protection of her fetus and to facilitate its delivery:
- O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, and the son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand; Your decree upon me is continuous, and Your judgment concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that is Yours, which You named Yourself, or taught to one of Your creations, or revealed in Your Book, or kept in Your knowledge, to make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the removal of my sorrow, and the departure of my anxiety. O Allah, relieve my distress and ease my delivery.
- O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs the kingdom and to Him belongs all praise, and He is capable of everything. Come forth, O newborn, by the decree of the King and the Worshipped. O Ever-Living, in Your mercy I seek refuge. O Most Merciful of the merciful, I invoke You, and may peace and blessings be upon our Master Muhammad and his family and companions.
- O Allah, protect my fetus and grant me the ability to raise and nurture it well.
