The Children of the Prophet from Lady Khadijah
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had all of his children with Lady Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), with the exception of his son Ibrahim, who was born from Maria the Copt. The children of Khadijah include:
- Male Children:
- Qasim, who passed away in infancy, reported to have died at the age of seventeen months.
- Abdullah, known by the titles Al-Tayyib and Al-Tahir. There is some debate regarding the timing of his birth—whether it occurred before or after the prophethood. He, too, died in childhood.
- Female Children:
- Zainab, the eldest daughter, was married to Al-Rabi ibn Al-Aas. She embraced Islam before her husband, and their marriage was eventually separated due to the tenets of Islam, leading her to join her father in Medina while her husband remained in Mecca, until he publicly declared his conversion in the sixth year of Hijra.
- Fatimah, who married Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and bore him Hasan, Husayn, Muhsin, Zaynab, and Umm Kulthum.
- Ruqayyah, who was married to Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) after being separated from her previous husband, Utbah ibn Abi Lahab. She lived with Uthman until her passing in the second year of Hijra.
- Umm Kulthum, who also married Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) after the death of her sister Ruqayyah, remaining his wife until her demise in the ninth year of Hijra.
Lady Khadijah (May Allah Be Pleased with Her)
Khadijah was the first wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet held a profound love for her and did not take any other wife during her lifetime. Allah bestowed upon her the unique blessing of being the mother of his children. She was among the earliest to embrace Islam alongside the Prophet, serving as a tremendous supporter and ally in his mission. With her wealth and efforts, Khadijah provided steadfast support and patience in the face of challenges. A notable moment in her support came on the first day the revelation was bestowed upon the Prophet, as he felt afraid and confused. She reassured him, lifted his spirits, and comforted him by affirming that Allah would never disgrace him due to his excellent character and noble qualities.
Characteristics of Lady Khadijah (May Allah Be Pleased with Her)
Lady Khadijah, the Mother of the Believers, is widely recognized for her admirable traits and characteristics, among which are:
- Patience and perseverance in the cause of Allah. She endured hardship alongside the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the Muslims during the three years of siege in the Valley of Abu Talib. During this time, she faced hunger and deprivation without complaint, viewing her struggles as a form of worship for the sake of Allah.
- Pioneering spirit in embracing faith. It has been reported that Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) was the first to accept Islam from the women of this nation, as noted by Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him), indicating that she set an example for all women who followed, earning a reward equivalent to theirs.
- Sound judgment, which was evident when she quickly reassured the Prophet (peace be upon him) during his initial encounter with revelation. She recalled his virtues that were connected only with goodness, fostering his confidence.
