Friendship
Friendship is a social bond that connects two or more individuals, founded on strong principles of affection, loyalty, selflessness, and commitment. A true friend is an invaluable treasure, akin to a brother you didn’t have. They are the ones you turn to when burdened by life’s worries, only to leave with a heart full of joy. Life finds its vibrancy in the presence of a sincere friend, a blessing that one truly appreciates only in its absence. This article will present some of the most beautiful poetic verses about friendship.
A Thought on My Mind
I have a thought in my mind that I cannot conceal,
They say time is harsh, while I contend that time is fair.
They claim friendships are defined by years that drift apart,
Yet I believe that the bond of hearts is far stronger than any time.
A friendship so tender graces me with its delicate meanings,
I’ve penned a tale of loyalty that I inscribe earnestly.
Let it be said, nothing in this world is comparable to it,
A friend who stands by me when times are tough and chance is unkind.
May God fill her life with joy and fulfill all her desires,
With His grace may they be realized, and her heart remain pure.
May the Almighty keep her close to one who always cherishes her,
And may our companionship remain steadfast through the ages.
May blessings be upon our Prophet, as numerous as his calls on that day of need when one turns to their Lord in vulnerability.
Poetry on Friendship
There is nothing more pleasing to my eyes than
The sight of cherished friends and companions.
The worst of lands is that which has no friends,
And the worst that one can earn is not being loved.
Engage with those distinguished by their wisdom,
And choose your friend based on their moral character.
If you find fault with everyone all the time,
Your friend will be the one you cannot reproach.
Beautiful Verses on Friendship
Guide me, my friend, to the path of poetry,
At every turn with clarity for the verse, in the blue of the sea, and the tender ripening wheat,
In a cloud where the jewels shatter, flowing like pearls over the sadness of the pomegranate,
Which echoes the dreams we once shared.
Let sound unite us amidst the fragmentation of meanings.
Or lead me, dear friend, without a heavy cost,
To find a friend who is a substitute for the one who breaks a trust among a thousand.
Friendship gifts us sustenance, and friends offer us security;
No dead man has a true friend, nor does a miser.
A day spent without friends is an eternal day,
And one who cannot journey alone to the sea
Knows rarely the pain of betrayal, something the distant cannot share.
The True Friend
He sat across from me with a gloomy face,
His fragile form smiles when I do,
And frowns when I express discontent.
I remember seeing him once when we were mere clay,
In the balconies of God’s palace and again in hell.
Why did he choose me from all those seated?
And why not join the fans to watch the game on television?
I see him strange, shaking off ideas like dust from a grave,
I read in his face thirty years of confusion,
Thirty years of departing for cities of elusive dreams,
Thirty years of sleeplessness reading my book,
Wearing a shroud—why did he sadden when he saw me flirt with that blonde?
Is he feeling jealous?
Does he resent me? He laughs and mutters words I cannot hear.
Now I will leave him to play alone,
But as I exited, I remembered I had forgotten him so I returned,
Only to find him searching for me with his gloomy face and fragile frame.
One is Known By Their Actions
A person is known by their actions among people,
And the attributes of a noble person are like their roots.
Be patient with life’s sweet and bitter moments,
And know that God is capable of fulfilling His decree; do not speak ill lest you be spoken of similarly.
Avoid vulgarity and do not speak it when amidst serious discussion or jest.
If a friend wrongs you out of ignorance, pardon them for the sake of friendship,
Not for their own merit, how many a wise man has been insulted by someone unworthy.
The sea rises above the carcasses of the land, while pearls lie buried beneath its sands.
I marvel at a bird vying against a hawk, save for its lightness and shallow intelligence.
Take care not to reap sweetness from bitter fruit; the essence returns to its roots.
In the air, it is inscribed upon the pages of affection; those who do good will receive the same in return.
Poetry on Friendship by Ibn al-Rumi
How I adore the decency of a friend when it separates
Him from betrayal.
There is no greater enjoyment than expanding oneself
If it leads to the diminishment of one’s responsibilities.
I have entrusted my needs to you, and they have become
Reserved in a position of waiting.
And I trust that a true friend should restrain
Himself in the face of tempests.
I thank God for the friendship that has not been spoiled
By bitterness.
And to God I complain that my affection is not
Reciprocated, save perhaps by ones who do not require it.
Extolling the praise of a true friend requires discernment,
Where is our salvation when we face those who desire our demise?
To a Friend by Khalil Gibran
O you who have grown close to my heart,
And yet you remain far from my eyes,
My longing for you is deeper than
The longing of one in good health for sleep.
I yearn to meet you as the thirsty souls yearn for flowers,
Yet distance keeps us apart, and I push against this barrier of separation.
Your beauty was a blessing, adorned with shining gems,
Your words like pearls and paper as fine as silk.
I complain to you and bear no blame,
If the beloved in shackles wishes for freedom.
For a long time, generosity has been withheld,
And true friends had become scarce.
In company devoid of ethics, I find no loyalty,
Only deceit or self-interested motives.
The courageous among them know of bravery
Only what is familiar to them.
Whether they speak passionately for me or harshly against me,
A false promise serves to uncover a solid truth.
Thus, I measure their worth by their availability; for not all riches offer value.
It is observed, a person who has no friends gains harm,
And knowing the useless truly is a burden on existence.
