Prayers for Closeness to Allah from the Noble Sunnah
This section outlines some significant prayers for drawing nearer to Allah – The Exalted – as recommended in the Noble Sunnah:
- (O Allah, I ask You for every good, both immediate and delayed, that I know and what I do not know, and I seek refuge with You from all evil, both immediate and delayed, that I know and what I do not know. O Allah, I ask You for the best of what Your servant and Prophet has asked for.)
(And I seek refuge with You from the evil from which Your servant and Prophet sought refuge. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and for everything that brings me closer to it, in speech and action. I also seek refuge with You from the Fire and from everything that brings me closer to it, in speech or action. I request that You make every decree You have decreed for me a source of goodness.)
- (O Allah, by Your knowledge of the unseen, and by Your power over creation, grant me life as long as You know it is good for me, and take my soul when You know death is better for me. O Allah, I ask You to instill in me Your reverence, both in secret and in public, and I ask You for a word of sincerity in contentment and anger. I ask You for moderation in wealth and poverty, and bliss that does not cease, and for joy that never ends.)
(I also request acceptance of Your decree, and I ask You for a peaceful life after death, and for the pleasure of gazing upon Your face, and the longing to meet You, without any harmful affliction or misleading trial. O Allah, adorn us with the ornament of faith and make us guides who are rightly guided.)
- (O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand, Your decree is executed upon me, and Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that is Yours, which You have named Yourself with, or have sent down in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or You have kept hidden in the knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the relief of my sadness, and the removal of my worries.)
