Qur’anic Verses and Chapters Against Envy
The Holy Quran serves as a source of healing for believers. Below is a collection of verses and chapters from the Quran that can be recited to protect oneself from the evil eye, envy, witchcraft, and possession:
- Ayat al-Kursi: (Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.)
- Surah Al-Kafirun: (Say, “O disbelievers! I do not worship what you worship. And you are not worshippers of what I worship. And I will not be a worshipper of what you have worshipped. And you will not be worshippers of what I worship. For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.”)
- Surah Al-Ikhlas: (Say, “He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.”)
- Surah Al-Falaq: (Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak from the evil of that which He created and from the evil of darkness when it settles and from the evil of the blowers in knots and from the evil eye of an envious one when he envies.”)
- Surah An-Nas: (Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind. The God of mankind from the evil of the retreating whisperer – who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind, of jinn and among mankind.”)
- End of Surah Al-Baqarah: (The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. [Grant us] Your forgiveness, our Lord. To You is the final destination. Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or made a mistake. Our Lord, lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.)
- Surah Al-Fatiha: (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Sovereign of the Day of Judgment. It is You we worship and You we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path, the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.)
- (Alif, Lam, Meem. This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah – who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them – and who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain. Those are upon [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.)
- (And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers and it increases the wrongdoers only in loss.)
- (And Pharaoh said, “Bring me every skilled magician.” And when the magicians came to Moses, he said to them, “Throw down whatever you will throw.” And when they had thrown, Moses said, “What you have brought is magic; indeed, Allah will invalidate it. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of the corruptors. And Allah will establish the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it.)
- (And they followed what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. And Solomon did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut; and they did not teach anyone unless they said, “We are a trial, so do not disbelieve.” And from them, people learn that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah. And they learn what harms them and does not benefit them. And they certainly knew that whoever bought it would have no share in the Hereafter, and wretched is that for which they sold themselves if they only knew.)
- (The lightning almost takes away their sight; every time it lights the way for them, they walk therein, but when darkness overtakes them, they stand. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.)
- (So if they believe in the like of that in which you have believed, then they have certainly been guided; but if they turn away, then they are only in dissension, and Allah will be sufficient for you against them. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing. The religion of Allah, and who is better than Allah in religion? And we are His worshipers.)
- (And when I am ill, it is He who cures me.)
- (Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful.)
- (And He will cure the breasts of a believing people.)

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Protection Against Envy
Can I pray for someone else’s protection from envy and the evil eye?
A Muslim can indeed pray for the protection of others. It is established that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would recite incantations for his family. For instance, Ayesha, the Mother of the Believers, reported: “When someone from his family fell ill, the Messenger of Allah would breathe upon them with the Muawidhat.” Additionally, it was reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would say upon visiting a sick person: “Remove the affliction, O Lord of mankind; heal, for You are the Healer; there is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no sickness.”
However, it is better for a believer to perform self-incantation, as indicated in the hadith where the Prophet mentioned: “Seventy thousand of my followers will enter Paradise without account,” when asked who they would be, he replied: “Those who do not ask for incantation from others, nor practice omens, nor undergo cauterization, and put their trust in their Lord.” The phrase “do not ask for incantation” means that they do not request someone else to perform incantation; rather, they do it themselves.
Is feeling fatigued while reciting the protection remembrances a sign of being envious?
Signs of the evil eye and witchcraft are varied, including the experience of fatigue when reciting legal incantations. Those who feel such fatigue should consistently adhere to the remembrance and supplications meant for protection.
Is there any narration about reciting Quranic verses over water for protection against envy?
Reciting verses over water and using it for healing is a practice that has been reported from righteous predecessors and is noted in experiential accounts, as all of the Quran is a source of healing. However, this particular approach has not been firmly established as a practice of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
What is the legal stance on water sold as a remedy for the evil eye?
There is no harm in selling water that has been recited over, as it is considered a remedy. However, it should be noted that the charge for this should be minimal, not for the recitation itself but for the water itself.
