Verses in Praise of the Prophet

Poetry Verses in Praise of the Prophet

This poem is attributed to the renowned poet Ibn Jaber Al-Andalusi, who received the title “Sultan of Lovers” due to his verses focusing on divine love. The poem “In Every Opening of the Word is a Lesson” contains the following lines:

In every opening in the spoken word, there is a lesson

The truth of praise belongs to the one sent with the miraculous signs

In the household of Imran, his mission was well-known

Both their men and women sought to understand his story

He has extended for humanity a banquet of blessings

Which is not limited to the cattle alone

In the heights of his blessings, hope is fulfilled

Except with the bounty that flows abundantly

In him, supplication was made when he called for repentance

In the depths of the sea, Jonah found peace

How many fears were calmed by Hud and Yusuf

And the sound of thunder will not frighten those who remember him

His invocation was like that of Ibrahim, sincerely

In the house of the God, and in the stone, he sought its mark

With a nation like the buzzing of bees, their remembrance

Extends to every corner; glory be to He who created them

In the cave, Rahma sought refuge, and with him

The glad tidings of Mary’s son in the Gospel was renowned

He was named Taha and urged the prophets to

Perform pilgrimage to the sacred place for which he was created

People succeeded by the light that enveloped them

From the light of the Criterion, when it shone, revealing its secrets

The great poets have faltered

Like ants when they heard its verses

And tales are enough for the spider that came

When it wove a web at the door of the cave and concealed it

His order was well-known in Rome long ago

And Luqman succeeded in the wisdom he shared

How many prostrations were made in the midst of the factions

His swords showed them the way to their Lord

He captured them; the Creator of the exalted heavens, through generosity

Among messengers, his name was elevated

In the ranks, the angels stood to support him

So he routed the gathering of enemies, defeating their ranks

For the Forgiver of sins, there are verses

That have been detailed with meanings that are not limited

Your council urges you to forsake the world and its embellishments

Like smoke that blinds the eyes of those who gaze upon it

His pure law invaded the white when he arrived

In the Aḥqāf of Badr, and the soldiers of God bestowed victory upon him

After the battle, the victory followed without cease

And the pillars of faith became triumphant

By the Waves and the wind, God swore that

Whatever was said to be true, as it was mentioned

In the mount, Moses saw the star of his eminence

And the horizon split in reverence for him

He was taken on a night journey by the Most Merciful

In closeness, he firmly established his gaze upon his Lord

He showed him things to which steel could not withstand

And in debating with the disbelievers, he was assisted

On the Day of Resurrection, when humanity is tested, he will arrive

In the ranks of the messengers, every follower will treasure his legacy

A hand will glorify Allah, having pebbles between it

So, accept when the truth, which has its measure, arrives

For you have seen the world’s deception at his feet

Having taken a divorce, it did not attract his gaze

His prohibition of worldly love, and his longing

For the afterlife from the essence of sovereignty, was indeed profound

In the letter Nūn, praises have been fulfilled regarding him, as

He was praised by Allah when he revealed his path

By his status, Noah flowed in his ark

The ships of salvation and the waves of the sea engulfed it

And the jinn exclaimed: “The truth has come, so follow!”

A mendicant of the truth who will not abandon

A cloaked intercessor on the Day of Judgment, did

A prophet arrive, with this majesty being his treasure?

In the messengers, from scriptures, the news was made clear

About his mission, subsequent messages have documented

His grace removed the oppression in a time

On a day when the disobedient was terrified by their fear

When the sun was rolled up on that day and the sky was split

It cried out: Woe to the dawn!

And the sky will be torn apart and the constellations will vanish

From the meteors and the celestial bodies that will remain hidden

So, glorify the name of the one who in creation interceded

And has the news of the reservoir reached you? It is as

Bright as dawn in the guarded land, its radiance

And the sun from its bright light will be concealed

And the night will be like the daylight when the pain appears

We will explain to you the narrative of its fragrant news

If the fig and the olive were beckoned, they would hasten

To him at that moment, and in reading, you will discern his news

On the Night of Decree, how much honor he attained

In glory, humanity has never perceived its measure

How often were the steeds of the determined shaken

On a land that challenges fear, recurring

Before him, the multitude of verses have been renown

In every age, woe to the one who disbelieves

Have you not seen the sun as it bore witness to him and was withheld

Over Quraysh and the spirit came when commanded

Did you not see that the Lord of the Throne honored him

With a river of abundance in his fountain?

And the disbelievers, when humanity comes, will be expelled

From his reservoir, for the hands of disbelief perish

My sincere praise of him occupies me, how many disclosures

At dawn, I have heard in it people boasting of him

Poems on Divine Love

Below are the verses of Ibn Al-Farid on divine love:

Poem: What Sweetness Lies Inside

What sweetness lies inside if it is reversed?

After some alterations, it remains empty

It almost seems, if added to the nights of youth

Two-thirds of it is seen bright as morning

And its name, pronounced, has its letters

From its source, which was once a refuge

Poem: The Censurer is Like the Accuser

The censurer is like the accuser to me, O people

He bestowed upon me what I love in the shadow of blame

I do not hold him accountable if he appears in my dreams

For the hearing perceives what the shadow of sleep does not

Poem: I Love the Moon Whose Meanings Intensify

I love the moon whose meanings are tender

From the morning of his brow, he lit up the East

Do you know by Allah what the lightning says?

Between his teeth and mine is a separation
