Simple Prayers for Children
Teaching children prayers and remembrances is essential as it helps shield them from harm and evil. It deepens their faith, strengthens their connection with God, and encourages them to seek His guidance in all their affairs. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has shared numerous prayers with both children and adults, including the following:
Diverse Prayers for Children
- “Praise be to God who has given us life after having caused us to die, and unto Him is the resurrection.”
- The prayer for entering and exiting the restroom: Before entering, say: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female impurities,” and after exiting, say: “Your forgiveness, O Allah.”
- The supplication after performing ablution: “I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah, alone without partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.”
- The prayer for entering the home: “O Allah, I ask You for the best of entry and the best of exit. In the name of Allah, we enter and in the name of Allah, we exit, and in Allah, our Lord, we put our trust,” followed by greeting the family.
- The invocation before meals and drinks: When starting, say: “In the name of Allah.” If forgotten, say: “In the name of Allah at the beginning and the end.”
- Upon finishing a meal, say: “Praise be to Allah who has fed us and given us to drink, and made us Muslims.”
- The prayer before sleeping: “In Your name, O Lord, I lay my side down, and with You, I raise it. If You hold my soul, then have mercy upon it, and if You send it forth, then guard it as You guard Your righteous servants.”
Mornings and Evenings Remembrances
Among the morning and evening invocations are:
- “O Allah, we have entered the morning and we have entered the evening by You, and by You, we live and die, and to You is the return. In the evening, say: “O Allah, we have entered the evening and we have entered the morning by You, and by You, we die and live, and to You is the final destination.”
- “I seek refuge in the complete words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.”
- “In the name of Allah, the One whose name cannot harm anything in the heavens or on earth; He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
- “I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad, peace be upon him, as my Prophet.”
- “We have entered the morning, and (we have entered the evening) the sovereignty belongs to Allah, and praise be to Allah, there is no deity but Allah alone without partners; to Him belongs the sovereignty and to Him belongs the praise, and He is capable of all things.” One may add in the evening: “O Lord, I ask You for the best of what this night contains and the best of what comes after it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what comes after it.”
Prayers for Leaving Home and Entering a Vehicle
- “In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah, there is no might nor power except with Allah.”
- “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from going astray or leading others astray, from falling or causing others to fall, from wronging or being wronged, from ignorance or being treated with ignorance.”
- “In the name of Allah, praise be to Allah; glory be to Him who has made this possible for us, and we were not able to accomplish it. Indeed, we will return to our Lord.”
Prayers for the Call to Prayer, Entering, and Exiting the Mosque
Among the supplications for the call to prayer and entering or exiting the mosque are:
- “In the name of Allah and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.”
- “In the name of Allah and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You for Your bounty.”
- After the call to prayer: “I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah, alone without partners, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. (O Allah, send blessings and peace upon Your servant and Messenger Muhammad). I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Muhammad as my Messenger, and with Islam as my religion.” Additionally, “O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and standing prayer, grant Muhammad the highest rank and the most exalted status and raise him to the praiseworthy station You have promised him.”
